New York COVID-19 Update—Updated Personal Service Guidelines

09/03/2020

Services that require face masks to be removed are allowed as of September 3, 2020

New York provided new Personal Service Guidelines on September 3, 2020. These new guidelines allow facials, face massages, facial makeup, face waxing, beard trims, and shaves to be performed so long as the provider is wearing a face mask and a face shield, and receives a negative COVID-19 test at least once on or after September 3, 2020, before performing the services. (See page 5, Section C – Workplace Activity).

The guidelines provide a number of other cleaning and sanitizing protocols with specific guidelines for salons that offer nail and waxing services, and massage therapy and spa services.

Providers must read the document and sign the affirmation at the bottom of the page before performing these services.

Additional Safety Resources

ABMP, ASCP, AHP, and ANP understand there is a fine line between getting back to work and earning an income and protecting the safety of you and your clients. As you consider returning to work, we urge you to make government permission to work only one element of your decision about whether and when to reopen. Please review our comprehensive series of back-to-practice guidelines to help reduce risk and keep you and your clients safe.

We also have helpful forms and printouts available on our website, including office policies, screening questionnaires, and posters to remind clients about social distancing and handwashing.

We appreciate your membership and will continue working on your behalf to update you as we learn more. Please check our COVID-19 page for updates. Be safe and be well.
