Governor Cuomo announced updated COVID-19 micro-cluster focus zones in New York. Parts of Erie County will enter the Orange Zone November 20, 2020, and nonessential, high-risk businesses must close.

These new guidelines allow facials, face massages, facial makeup, face waxing, beard trims, and shaves to be performed so long as the provider is wearing a face mask and a face shield, and receives a negative COVID-19 test at least once on or after September 3, 2020, before performing the services.

Visiting Instructors Subject to NY Massage Law

NY SB 1318, discussed in our previous legislative update, was signed into law on March 13, 2015. The new law provides that a massage therapist who is licensed in good standing in another state, and who is conducting a hands-on demonstration of modalities and techniques within New York State, is subject to the disciplinary and regulatory authority of the New York Board of Regents, and must comply with the all of the provisions of the New York massage therapy law. The law takes effect immediately.
