The wellness tourism industry is a significant piece of global tourism, growing to $639 billion in 2017. That’s according to a research report—the “2018 Global Wellness Economy Monitor”—released recently by the Global Wellness Institute. Defined as “travel associated with the pursuit of maintaining or enhancing one’s personal well-being,” wellness tourism grew 6.5% from 2015 to 2017, twice as fast as general tourism. And travelers made 830 million wellness trips in 2017 in their pursuit of living a healthy lifestyle.
